Among those veterans already interviewed for Nose Art and Pin Ups are the artist Don Allen, famous for painting the nose cones “nose art” on almost 100 aircraft while stationed in East Anglia. These paintings added some much needed humour and helped personalise the aircraft for men who risked their lives every day.
Also taking part are pilot Robert Barnhart, whose pin-up on his plane was his wife; Don Freer, captain of “Stinky” who was shot down and captured on a bombing raid over Germany and Steve Perri, the pilot of Delta Reb Two. His plane, featuring a Southern Colonel, was used in the propaganda film and photo shoots with Clark Gable.
